Force Design Swedish marine battalion 2030
Force Design Swedish Marine Battalion 2030 is a program to evolve the Swedish amphibious forces in order to improve their ability to meet increased threats and the demands of the ongoing NATO-integration. The program will during the coming years introduce a number of new platforms with sea-mobile network centric weapon and sensor systems.
Sea-mobile Network centric systems for increased firepower
The amphibious forces of the Swedish Navy are designed to operate in the contested littorals of the Nordics. The close proximity to Russia and the extensive archipelagos of Nordic/Baltic arena make dispersion a natural tactic for protection. This puts great demands on the ability of movement and joint arms operations to create sufficient fire power.
Development in close co-operation
The Swedish Marine Battalion 2030 has been in development since 2015 in close co-operation between The Armed Forces of Sweden, The Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV). The result is a concept with a number of small sea-based platforms with sensor, weapon and command and control systems that gives the battalion the ability of joint arms operation within the battalion, together with other units of The Swedish Armed Forces and its NATO allies.
Planned sea-mobile platforms
A number of sea-based sensor, weapons and command & control systems are currently being developed and procured by FMV:
Sea-mobile artillery system (Mortar boat)
Sea-mobile sensor system
Sea-mobile air defense system
Sea-mobile anti-ship system
Sea-mobile command system
Sea-mobile logistics system
One of the first systems under development is a mortar boat with the gyro balanced 12 cm Patria NEMO mortar system as main weapon system.
